Drive Player Self Discovery

Leading questions can guide players to reflect on their actions and encourage

self-awareness without focusing on criticism.

Here are some examples:

 

"What do you think worked well in that play?"

Encourages players to recognize their strengths and successes.

 

"How could you have made a quicker decision there?"

Guides the player to think about improving decision-making without directly criticizing.

 

"What would you do differently if you had another chance at that pass?"

Promotes reflection on improvement and learning from mistakes.

 

"What’s one thing you could focus on to make the next play even better?"

Encourages continuous improvement and personal development.

"How can you position yourself to cut off their options?"

Encourages players to think about positioning and reading the game.

"What could you do differently to slow them down next time?"

Promotes reflection on their approach in defensive situations.

 

"How can you use your position to create more space for your teammate?"

Directs the player to think strategically and on their role in the team.

 

"What did you notice about the space ahead of you?"

Helps players evaluate field awareness and decision-making.

 

"What’s the best way to create a passing option for your teammate?"

Encourages off-the-ball movement and support.

"What options did you have when you were under pressure?"

Helps the player evaluate their awareness and decision-making during high-pressure moments.

 

"What did you see that allowed you to make that /pass/shot?"

Encourages players to reflect on their observations and decision-making processes.

 

"How did you feel about your positioning in that situation?"

Prompts players to reflect on their positioning and positioning awareness.

 

"What are some ways you can adjust your movement to make yourself more available for the ball?"

Helps the player think about how to improve their movement off the ball
